The basic building is just the start. The extras are what make it fit your life: a covered spot for the trailer, a second door so you are not walking around the building, light from a window, a concrete apron so you are not tracking mud inside.
Every add-on below can be included in your quote. Just ask us to quote it. Because we do both the concrete and the building, we can plan the extras together so everything lines up.
Lean-Tos
A lean-to is a roof section attached to the side or end of your building, usually a bit lower than the main roof. It is one of the most useful add-ons we sell.
- Covered parking for a trailer, mower, or side-by-side
- Firewood and material storage
- A covered porch or patio area
- Livestock shelter on a barn
- Equipment parking beside a shop
Lean-tos can be fully open, partly closed, or enclosed. You can put one on one side, both sides, or an end. If you might want one later, mention it when you order so the main building can be planned with it in mind.
Roll-Up Doors
Roll-up doors coil up at the top of the opening, so they do not need ceiling space like a track-style garage door. Most buildings have at least one. Extra roll-up doors are handy for:
- Pull-through access from end to end
- A second bay for a different vehicle
- Airflow on hot days
Size the door to the biggest thing that will go through it, with room to spare on width and height. Our size guide covers door clearance.
Walk-In Doors
A walk-in door is a regular entry door. It lets you get in and out without opening the big roll-up. Most people want at least one. If you have a shop with a bench at one end, a walk-in door near the bench saves a lot of steps.
Windows
Windows bring in light and make a building feel less like a box. In a workshop, natural light is a real help. Think about placement so windows do not land where you plan to put shelves or benches.
Frame-Outs
A frame-out is a framed opening ready for a door or window you install later, or one that does not come standard. These are useful if you have a specific door you want to use.
Insulation
Bare steel can collect condensation when warm, moist air meets cold metal. Insulation cuts down on that and makes the inside more comfortable. If you plan to heat or cool the building, or store things that should not get dripped on, insulation is worth asking about. See building care for more on condensation.
Concrete Aprons and Sidewalks
An apron is a concrete pad poured in front of a roll-up door. It gives you a clean transition from the driveway, cuts down on mud and gravel getting dragged inside, and protects the edge of your slab. Sidewalks connect your building to the house or driveway so you are not walking through wet grass.
Since we pour the slab, adding an apron or sidewalk at the same time is simple. Concrete is quoted separately from the building. Learn more on our concrete foundations page.
Other Options
Need something not on this list? Gable-end treatments, wainscot, trim colors, or a custom size? Ask. If it can be done right, we will quote it. Not sure what a term means? Check the glossary.

Common Questions
Can I add a lean-to after my building is installed?
Often yes, but it is easier to plan if you mention it when ordering. Ask us and we will look at what works for your building.
What is the difference between a roll-up door and a walk-in door?
A roll-up door is the large door that coils up at the top for vehicles and equipment. A walk-in door is a regular entry door for people.
Why add a concrete apron?
An apron gives a clean transition at the roll-up door, keeps mud and gravel out, and protects the slab edge. We can pour it at the same time as your slab.
How much do add-ons cost?
It depends on your building and what you choose. Ask us to quote it and we will include every add-on in one quote.
