Metal Buildings in Virginia

Tan steel building with brown roll-up doors on a gravel pad

Virginia is home for Stoots Storage Solutions. We are a family-run metal building and concrete contractor based in Southwest Virginia, and this is where we do more work than anywhere else. John has been in the metal building industry since its early days, and he runs the business with a family member. When you call, you talk to the people doing the work.

We put up garages, workshops, barns, carports, RV and boat covers, commercial buildings, and barndominium shells all over the state. Our roots are in the mountains and valleys of Southwest Virginia, from the coalfields to the Blue Ridge plateau.

Turnkey: Concrete and Building From One Company

Most buyers end up juggling a concrete contractor, a building dealer, and an install crew that never talk to each other. We do it differently. One company handles the site review, site prep, footers, the 4-inch slab, and the steel building install. The building is delivered, set, anchored, and checked before we leave. You get one point of contact from the first call to the final walk-through.

Concrete is quoted separately from the building so you can see exactly what each part costs. Payments on concrete work are 10% of the job subtotal at signing (non-refundable), 35% of the remaining balance when the footers are poured, and 65% when the 4-inch slab is poured. Footers are poured below the local frost depth, and we pay close attention to vapor barriers and control joints. Read more on our concrete foundations page.

Buildings Made for Virginia Weather

Virginia weather ranges from heavy mountain snow to strong wind on the ridges. Our buildings are certified for local wind and snow loads, and engineered drawings are available for your permit. We offer three roof styles:

  • Vertical roof: about 80% of what we sell. Panels run top to bottom so snow and rain slide off. Best for enclosed and longer buildings.
  • Boxed-eave (horizontal or A-frame): panels run lengthwise. Sits in the middle on price.
  • Standard (regular): rounded eaves and the lowest cost.

Southwest Virginia Counties We Serve

We build all over Virginia, but these Southwest Virginia counties are close to home. Pick yours for local details, common uses, and where to check on permits:

Do not see your county? We still build there. Virginia is just one of the 28 states we serve, and Virginia and North Carolina are where we work the most. See the full service area.

Rent-to-Own and Price Lock

Our rent-to-own program starts with 15% down, and monthly payments run about 25% lower than typical rent-to-own programs. You also get 90 days same as cash, starting the day the building is physically delivered. Enclosed buildings qualify. Open carports are not eligible for rent-to-own or discounts.

Steel, diesel, and fuel costs keep going up. A 15% deposit locks your quoted building price until spring, so you can plan your build without worrying about the next price jump.

Why We Are Picky About Manufacturers

We work with 4 carefully vetted manufacturers. We cut ties with 53 others over quality and integrity concerns. That is not the easy way to run a business, but it means we can stand behind every building we sell. John is known as a trusted voice in metal building Facebook groups, and he gives the same advice to everybody, whether they buy from us or not:

  • Check the company’s Facebook business page. If reviews are not showing, move on.
  • Make sure they have been in business more than a couple of years.
  • Watch for fake reviews, like odd foreign names or a lot of reviews posted close together.
  • Do the same review check on Google.

Permits in Virginia

Permits, setbacks, frost depth, and wind and snow requirements are handled at the county level, and sometimes by the town. Before any concrete is poured, check with your county building office. Each county page above links to the local building office where we could find one. We can provide engineered drawings to help with your permit.
