Install Day: What to Expect

Long dark gray steel building under construction on a graded pad

Install day is the fun part. After the planning, the paperwork, and the concrete, your building finally goes up. Knowing what to expect helps the day go smoothly for everyone.

Here is how it usually works with Stoots Storage Solutions. Because we handle the foundation and the building, the crew that shows up knows your site and what was poured for it.

Before the Crew Arrives

Most of the work for a smooth install happens in the days before. Go through our site prep checklist, and especially:

  • Make sure the delivery truck has a clear path to the site
  • Move vehicles, trailers, and anything else out of the way
  • Keep the slab or building area clear of tools, toys, and debris
  • Have an outdoor outlet available if you can
  • Put pets inside and keep kids away from the work area

If weather looks bad, we will be in touch. Wind and heavy rain can make installing steel unsafe, and we will not put a crew or your building at risk just to stay on schedule.

Delivery

The building arrives on a truck with the frame pieces, panels, trim, doors, and hardware. Access matters a lot here. If the truck cannot reach the site, parts may have to be unloaded farther away and carried in, which slows everything down. If you have any doubts about access, tell us before install day.

What the Crew Does

Every building is a little different, but the general order looks like this:

Layout and Check

The crew checks the foundation or site, confirms measurements, and lays out where each piece goes.

Frame

They set the base rails, stand the legs, and attach the trusses (also called bows) across the building. Then they add bracing and purlins, which tie the frame together and give the panels something to fasten to.

Anchors

The building is anchored to the slab or ground using the anchor type that fits your foundation. This is one of the most important steps, because anchoring is what holds the building down in wind.

Roof and Walls

Roof panels go on first, then wall panels. On vertical roofs, panels run from the peak down to the eave. Trim, ridge cap, and corner pieces finish the edges.

Doors and Windows

Roll-up doors, walk-in doors, and windows are installed and adjusted so they open and close properly.

Clean Up

The crew picks up scrap, screws, and packaging from the work area.

How You Can Help on the Day

  • Be around at the start to confirm door and window locations
  • Stay out of the work zone once the crew is working, for your own safety
  • Let the crew lead know if anything looks different from what you ordered, right away rather than later

The Final Walkthrough

Before we leave, the building is checked over. Then we walk through it with you. We go over:

  • Door operation, including how to lock and open the roll-up door
  • Anchoring and how the building is tied down
  • Trim and panel fit
  • Any questions you have about care and upkeep

This is the time to speak up. If something is not right, we would rather fix it while we are there.

After Install

Your building needs very little upkeep, but a few simple habits keep it in good shape for a long time. Read our building care guide. And if you are happy with how things went, we would be grateful if you left us a review.

Questions About Your Install?

Call or text 276-235-1191 any time before your install date. We would much rather answer a question ahead of time than solve a surprise on the day. You can also reach us through the contact page.

Common Questions

Do I need to be home on install day?

It helps to be there at the start to confirm door and window locations, and at the end for the walkthrough. Talk to us if you cannot be there.

What happens if it rains on install day?

Light weather may not stop the job, but high wind or heavy rain can make it unsafe. We will be in touch if we need to reschedule.

What if the delivery truck cannot reach my site?

Parts may have to be unloaded farther away and carried in, which slows the job. Tell us about any access concerns before install day.

What do you check before leaving?

The building is set, anchored, and checked before we leave. We walk through door operation, anchoring, and trim fit with you.
