Metal Buildings in Alabama

Cream steel building with black wainscot and black trim

Alabama is a good distance from our Southwest Virginia home, so we take jobs there when the project is the right fit. Call or text with your county and we will tell you honestly.

Storms, heat, and red dirt

Alabama gets hot, humid summers and a strong spring storm season. North Alabama has hills and the Tennessee Valley. Central Alabama has red clay that holds water. South Alabama and the Gulf Coast face hurricane exposure and sandy soil.

With that much severe weather, anchoring and certified wind loads come first in our conversations. Every building we sell is certified for local wind and snow loads, with engineered drawings available. Humidity means you should ask about condensation control in any enclosed building.

How Alabamians use them

  • Hay and equipment barns for cattle and poultry farms
  • Hunting gear and deer camp storage
  • Mechanic shops and welding shops
  • Boat storage near the lakes and Gulf
  • Large garages for trucks and trailers

Getting the ground right

Clay soil and heavy rain are hard on a poorly prepped slab. When we do turnkey work, we start with a site review and prep, then pour footers and a 4-inch slab before setting the building. We talk about drainage, vapor barriers, and control joints. More on our concrete work.

Check local requirements

Many rural Alabama counties have limited permit requirements, while cities and coastal counties are more involved. Flood zones and setbacks can still apply out in the country. Call your county or city building office before you order.

Rent-to-own on enclosed buildings

If paying all at once is not in the plan, enclosed buildings qualify for our rent-to-own program with 15% down. Monthly payments run about 25% lower than typical rent-to-own programs, and you get 90 days same as cash starting from physical delivery. Open carports are not eligible for rent-to-own or the discount, so if financing matters, plan on an enclosed building or at least enclosed sides and ends.

If you are near the Gulf, ask your county about any extra wind or flood requirements for your lot. If you are up in the Tennessee Valley, snow and ice still show up some winters, and a vertical roof handles that well.

Common Questions

Are your buildings rated for Alabama storms?

Every building we sell is certified for local wind and snow loads, and engineered drawings are available. Your county may have its own requirements, so check with them.

Do you have an office in Alabama?

No. We are based in Southwest Virginia and travel for the right job. Call or text with your county.

Can you build on red clay?

Yes, with good prep. Drainage and a properly built base matter a lot. We look at the site before recommending a foundation.
