Michigan is one of the farther states we serve from our Southwest Virginia base. We travel for the right job, and we would rather be honest up front about whether yours is a fit. Call or text with your county.
Snow country
Michigan winters are long and snowy, and lake-effect snow off the Great Lakes can stack up heavy in a hurry, especially along the western side and up north. Frost goes deep, so footers need to be poured below local frost depth or the building will move. The Upper Peninsula is its own world for snow and cold.
This is where roof style really matters. A vertical roof lets snow slide off and is our top recommendation. Every building we sell is certified for local wind and snow loads, with engineered drawings available, and Michigan permit offices usually want to see those.
What Michiganders build
- Winter storage for boats, pontoons, and RVs
- Snowmobile and side-by-side garages
- Hunting cabin storage up north
- Pole-barn style shops for farms and hobbies
- Detached garages for year-round homes
Planning the foundation
Our turnkey service includes site review, prep, footers below frost depth, a 4-inch slab, and the building install. In cold climates, the footer and base work matter even more. See our foundation page for how we approach it.
Check with your township
In Michigan, many townships handle zoning and some handle building permits too, so the rules can change a few miles down the road. Ask your township and county about permits, setbacks, snow load requirements, and frost depth before you order.
Rent-to-own on enclosed buildings
Enclosed buildings qualify for our rent-to-own program with 15% down. Payments run about 25% lower than typical rent-to-own programs, and you get 90 days same as cash from the day the building is physically delivered. Open carports are not eligible, which in Michigan is not much of a loss, since most people want walls between their gear and the snow anyway.
Many Michigan buyers want room for a boat or pontoon plus a snowmobile trailer in the same building. Measure everything, including trailer tongues, and plan door height around the tallest piece.
