Rhode Island is small, but it is a long way from our Southwest Virginia shop. We travel for the right job. Call or text with your town and we will let you know honestly.
The Ocean State
Almost nowhere in Rhode Island is far from salt water. Narragansett Bay and the coast bring nor’easters, hurricane exposure, salt air, and humidity. Inland and to the northwest, winters are colder with more snow. Freeze-thaw cycles affect concrete statewide.
Coastal wind is the main design concern. Every building we sell is certified for local wind and snow loads, with engineered drawings available. Salt air and humidity also make condensation control worth discussing.
Common uses
- Boat and trailer storage
- Detached garages
- Workshops for marine and building trades
- Small farm and nursery storage
Concrete and building
Where turnkey fits, we handle site review, prep, footers, the slab, and the building install. Concrete is quoted separately from the building. See concrete foundations.
Check with your town
Rhode Island towns handle permits and zoning locally, and coastal properties can face flood zone and coastal resource rules. Call your town building official before you order, and ask about setbacks and flood requirements.
Picking a roof for salt air and storms
A vertical roof is about 80% of what we sell. The panels run top to bottom, so wind-driven rain and snow slide straight off, and it works best on enclosed and longer buildings. Boxed-eave roofs are a mid-price option with a more traditional look, and regular curved roofs cost the least. Near the water, an enclosed vertical-roof building with good condensation control is usually the safest bet for keeping a boat or tools in good shape.
Pricing and payment options
A 15% deposit locks your quoted building price until spring. Enclosed buildings can go on rent-to-own with 15% down and 90 days same as cash from physical delivery, with payments about 25% lower than typical rent-to-own programs. We will quote it all clearly, with concrete separate from the building.
If you keep a boat on a trailer, think about turning room for backing it in too.
