Metal Garages

Cream steel building with black wainscot and black trim

Most people who call us about a garage have the same story. The truck sits outside, the mower lives under a tarp, and there is no good place to work on anything. A steel garage fixes all of that, and it does it without the long build time and constant upkeep of a stick-built structure.

We are a family-run metal building and concrete contractor out of Southwest Virginia. We do the site review, the site prep, the footers, the 4-inch slab, and the building install. You deal with one company and one point of contact the whole way through.

What a Metal Garage Is Good For

A garage does not have to be just a garage. Here is what our customers usually use them for:

  • Parking one, two, or three vehicles out of the weather
  • Storing a boat, side-by-side, or lawn equipment
  • A home workshop with room for a bench and tool chests
  • A mix of parking on one side and storage on the other
  • Overflow space when the house garage is full

If you are not sure what size you need, our size guide walks through what fits in common footprints, with tips on door sizes and walking room.

Picking a Roof Style

Steel garages come in three roof styles. The one you pick affects looks, price, and how the building handles weather.

Vertical Roof

About 80 percent of what we sell is vertical roof, and for good reason. The panels run from the peak down to the eave, so rain, snow, and leaves slide right off. If you get real winter weather, or you want an enclosed garage longer than a short carport, this is the one we usually point people toward.

Boxed-Eave Roof

Sometimes called a horizontal or A-frame roof. It has the peaked look of a house roof, but the panels run the length of the building. It sits in the middle on price and works well in milder areas.

Regular Roof

Rounded eaves and the lowest cost of the three. It is a fine choice for smaller buildings in places that do not see much snow.

Doors, Windows, and Options

Most garages get at least one roll-up door on the end or side, plus a walk-in door so you are not lifting the big door every time you grab a rake. Windows add light. Insulation helps with condensation and comfort. A lean-to on the side gives you covered space for a trailer or firewood. See our add-ons page for the full list, and we will quote whatever combination you want.

One tip from experience: plan your doors around how you will pull in. If your driveway comes in from the side, a side-entry door may save you a lot of backing and turning.

The Foundation Matters More Than People Think

A steel building is only as good as what it sits on. We pour footers below the local frost depth so the ground freezing and thawing does not heave your building. Then we pour a 4-inch slab, typically with a vapor barrier underneath and control joints cut in to manage cracking.

Concrete is quoted separately from the building, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Learn more on our concrete foundations page.

Built for Local Weather

Our garages can be certified for local wind and snow loads, and engineered drawings are available when your county asks for them. Requirements vary a lot from one county to the next, so always confirm with your local building office before you buy. Our permit help page has a list of questions to ask.

Who We Buy From

We work with 4 carefully vetted manufacturers. We cut ties with 53 others over quality and integrity concerns. That is not a sales line. It is the reason we can stand behind what goes up on your property. You can read the whole story on our page about why we cut 53 manufacturers.

Ways to Pay

Enclosed garages qualify for our rent-to-own program: 15 percent down, monthly payments about 25 percent lower than typical rent-to-own programs, and 90 days same as cash starting from physical delivery. If prices are on your mind, a 15 percent deposit locks your quoted building price until spring.

Where We Build

We are based in Virginia and work most in Virginia and North Carolina, but we serve 28 states up and down the East Coast and into the South and Midwest. Check our service area to see if you are covered.

Common Questions

Do you pour the slab for metal garages too?

Yes. We handle site prep, footers, and a 4-inch slab, then install the building. Concrete is quoted separately from the building so you can see each cost.

Which roof style is best for a garage?

Most of our customers choose a vertical roof because it sheds rain and snow best and works well on enclosed and longer buildings. Boxed-eave and regular roofs cost less and suit milder areas and smaller buildings.

Can I get a metal garage on rent-to-own?

Enclosed garages qualify. The program is 15 percent down with monthly payments about 25 percent lower than typical rent-to-own programs, plus 90 days same as cash from delivery.

Do I need a permit for a metal garage?

Many counties require one. Rules vary by county, so check with your local building and zoning office. Engineered drawings are available if they ask for them.
